The rare Omega Seamaster Grand Luxe comes in a few guises. The model for sale here has a gold-capped case with stainless steel back together with a solid 18k gold dial and batons. It displays the classic lines of the sought-after Seamaster with beefy lugs and wide bezel - originally marketed for "The active man".
The gold-capped case and lugs are in good condition. They have very minor scratches and dinks, most of which could easily be polished out. The same applies to the bezel which is usually solid gold but not hallmarked. The stainless steel case back is marked waterproof (it never was and certainly is not now so take care)! In the centre is the oversize version of the Hypocanthus sea monster which was available for only a few years. The four-leaf clover-style crown is original to the Seamaster and has the Omega logo.
With this Grand Luxe the dial is solid 18k gold and is marked 18k on the underside (watchmaker confirmed). It has a striped design with what looks like a lacquer finish. This has aged nicely producing a rich patina which really does complement the gold case. The hands are solid gold as is the sweep seconds hand. There is a quick-set date positioned at 3. To operate, once the date has advanced to about 1, wind it back to just before 9 and then back to one and the date will change. Repeat as many times as required. The acrylic is in excellent condition and is genuine Omega with the logo etched in the centre.
Inside is the reliable Omega 503 (automatic) that stores energy from the movement of the wrist when the watch is worn. It was serviced in 2022.
The watch comes with a new black, genuine leather non-Omega strap.
