The Seamster was introduced by Omega in 1948 and marketed as"The watch for the Active Man". It was robustly build and drew on the design successes of the military watches Omega built during WW11.

This early example was built in about 1955 and is true to its heritage with classic beefy lugs and a wide bezel. The case is gold capped and even after 70 years there are no signs of the gold rubbing through. There are some tiny marks on the case but nothing significant. The snap-on case-back is marked Seamaster and waterproof. They never were waterproof as we define the word today and it's recommended that you avoid any contact with water.

The champagne colour dial is in good condition and looks better than in the pictures. I believe someone has wiped over it in the past which has left some slight streaks. This is compounded by some scratches in the acrylic but overall the general appearance is acceptable for a watch of this age. There are applied gold arrow-head hour batons with 3, 6, 9, and 12 being applied gold Arabic numerals. Gold dagger hands with a gold sweep seconds hand. The omega logo is applied in gold whilst the words Omega, Seamaster, Automatic and Swiss-Made are all printed in black. The crown is a genuine Seamaster replacement.

Inside the case-back it is fully marked Omega. The movement is the Omega calibre 354 and runs exceptionally well, within a few seconds per day. Being an automatic it gains its power from the movement of the wrist when the watch is worn. It has a rotor that bumps back and forth and for that reason it's known as a bumper.

The watch comes with a genuine Omega leather strap and the original gold plated Omega buckle. The strap is past it's useful life and could be kept for posterity after the new owner purchases a replacement!
