1950 Vertex Revue bumper automatic wristwatch.

Vertex traces its history in the Uk back to 1912. They imported Swiss movements and such was the quality of their watches that they were one of the dirty dozen who produced watches for the military during WW2. Their demise was the introduction of quartz watches although they re-emerged in 2017 with the great grandson of the original founder at the helm and continue today with a superb range of watches reflecting their heritage. See their current range here.

The watch has a calibre 80SC bumper automatic movement which is working nicely. This movement, with the centre seconds variant, was in production from 1949 until 1958.

Automatic movements such as this one relied on the rotor ‘bumping’ backwards and forwards between two springs to maintain the power within the movement.

The watch measures 33mm in diameter excluding the crown. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition with just general light surface marks.

The dial is signed Vertex, Automatic and Swiss Made and is all original.  There is some very attractive light freckling across the dial. The hands and sweep seconds hand are gold coloured. It is a technical dial with each full-second index being split into 5 mini sectors (appropriate for an 18,000 BPH movement).

A new leather strap has been fitted.
