This superb deck clock was manufactured in the 1930s and distributed through Story Barrow to the British Admiralty. Built for a life of action, it has a solid brass case and weighs in at a formidable 1.53kg. It's all original.
The clock stands on four small legs, each stamped 3/8 and has a footprint of about 118 (exc. the crown) x 106 mm. With the brass handle folded down it stands a maximum of 70 mm tall with the case slanted so the time can easily be read when it is positioned on a flat surface.
The dial, including the bezel, measure about 91 mm diameter so it would be perfect on your study desk. It is in excellent condition with a slight off-white patina. The Arabic numerals are a fully saturated black and there is a railroad outer for the minutes. The hands are blued steel of Breguet design. Just below 12 there is a small seconds sub-dial. It was designed so that the time could easily be read so is without any decorative embellishments. Please not that at some time in the past Story Barrow has been removed from the dial. You can see the two slightly discoloured areas between 5 and 7 where the name was. The acrylic is in excellent condition with only minor scratches.
The clock is wound be a very robust crown that is positioned below 6 on the front of the case. It's easily accessible. On the slanting back side of the case is the brass carrying handle and the original key to unlock the case. With the clock stood on a firm surface, turn the key and the case lid will lift off.
To access the movement, rotate the movement case 1 cm anti-clockwise and then lift off. The underside is marked Omega together with the case reference number. The movement is Omega Calibre 110, stem wound version and is marked Omega Swiss, 15 jewels, 8 days with a serial number 8231619. It's very clean and in excellent working condition currently running about 2 seconds per day slow.
These deck clocks are becoming increasingly rare and due to their practicality and utility should prove to be a good investment for the future. A unique pice of Omega heritage.
